Controlling Alarm Systems with RFID Readers

This section describes how to use an RFID reader to control an alarm system.

In this scenario, you will program the Door Module as a lock with its own access rights.

Proceed as follows.

  1. Make sure that the switch on Net Bridge is set to STANDBY.
  2. Add, format and program the Door Module to the lock list as an Online lock.

For the lock cylinder type, choose N502.

For the lock type, choose Network module.

  3. Connect the Door Module to the prepared Net Bridge, or continue the bus from the last device on the main bus in accordance with the wiring diagram in iLOQ Online - Design Guide.
    Note:

If you are continuing the bus from another bus device, remember to remove the bus termination (TERMINATION = OFF) from the device from which you are continuing the bus.

  4. Connect the RFID reader to the Door Module's READER RS-485 bus in accordance with the wiring diagram.
  5. Connect the alarm control to the K1 relay output in accordance with the alarm system manufacturer’s instructions.

Connect the alarm system status info to the Door Module's IN 1 input to control the green light and/or to the IN 2 input to control the red light.

The status info imported from the alarm system must be potential-free.

  6. Set Operation Mode 5 by using the OPTIONS switches as follows:
    S1 OFF
    S2 ON
    S3 OFF
    S4 OFF
  7. Set TERMINATION (TE/TEST) to ON if this bus device is the last device in this bus branch. If not, set it to OFF.
  8. After connecting the remaining bus devices, complete the Net Bridge settings once (see Completing the Bus Device Configuration on Net Bridge) and continue this procedure.
  9. In iLOQ 5 Series Manager, check that the lock no longer has an orange background colour in the lock grid view. Remember to refresh the grid view by pressing the F5 key.
