Versatile and sustainable locking system for all municipality premises
About the customer
The municipality of Utrecht attaches great importance to sustainability. This applies to all outdoor tasks as well as the work within the office spaces. There are many employees working within the municipality and extensive collaboration with external partners.
About the project
The municipality needed to find a solution for employees and partners who needed access to municipal facilities at certain times, such as for the control cabinets in sewage pumping stations, or for the entrance to the city offices. With many physical keys in circulation it was difficult to keep track of who had a key and to where. Keys were lost, stolen and unreturned, making site security difficult to guarantee.
Many doors open and close every day. In the past, to prevent unauthorized access to important buildings, a physical visit was required to grant access. With, for example, around 600 control cabinets, this had become a time-consuming task. In addition, with the previous locking system, extensive maintenance time and costs had to be set aside for replacing batteries.
The solution
To provide the best way of granting access, two different iLOQ solutions were chosen – a digital-key-based solution for the city offices and a smartphone-based solution for the sewage pumping stations.
With the iLOQ S5 digital locking solution chosen for the city offices, access can be remotely granted to iLOQ’s digital key. The access rights can be updated and cancelled as needs change.
With the iLOQ S50 mobile access solution chosen for the sewage pumping stations, external partners can be granted access to the relevant control cabinet using their smartphone and the iLOQ app. Access rights can be granted based on cabinet number, day and time. This ensures a high level of site security and eliminates the time, cost and environmental impact of travelling to and from sites to grant access.

Battery- and maintenance-free solution
With no batteries to be purchased or maintenance time and costs related to changing them, lifecycle costs are significantly reduced.
Remote access management
Access rights for both the digital and mobile solution can be granted remotely and in real time. There is no need to make on-site visits.
Prevent unauthorized access
Access rights can be quickly and easily updated and cancelled as needs change to prevent unauthorized access and keep levels of security high.
Modularity
iLOQ’s solution is modular and there is no need for cabling or batteries. Cylinders can be removed from old cabinets and placed in new ones. In addition, no maintenance is required which eliminates the need for physical visits.
