Municipality of Rusko
One key gives access to all municipality premises
About the customer
With around 6,400 inhabitants, the peaceful and rural idyllic Rusko is located in Southwest Finland. For those who enjoy nature, there are a hiking trail and National Park. Rusko’s origins go back to the Middle Ages. The oldest documented mention of Rusko can be found in 1337.
The municipality invests especially in the comfort of families with children, the well-being of young people and basic services close to the municipal residents. With the help of an active business policy, they aim to create jobs in Rusko and ensure the starting points for a good everyday life for all the municipal residents.
About the project
To enhance security and reduce key management, the municipality of Rusko was looking for a smart-locking solution that would replace the old and inefficient mechanical locking system. There are over 250 employees in the municipality, all of whom had keys. The duty manager had over 100 keys and a key register to see which key worked for which area. There was often a need to use more than one key at each site.
When staff changed, keys had to be collected and then reissued to the new people. Key management was a challenge. Some properties had been occupied for a long time and there was no record of who had the keys.
The solution
The municipality decided to invest in iLOQ’s smart-locking solution that brings together the world’s first self-powered digital locking system and the world’s first NFC-powered mobile access sharing solution. The first site to be updated was the waterworks. This served as a pilot project. After the successful pilot, the solution was implemented throughout the municipality. With no electricity needed and no need to make changes to doors or the existing infrastructure, it was very easy to retrofit the locks.
How the everyday life of Rusko Municipality became easier
Less key management
Access rights for multiple areas and buildings can be programmed to just one key or sent to iLOQ’s app running on a smartphone. There is no need to involve locksmiths if new keys are needed. And locks do not need to be changed if a key is lost. Subcontractors can be remotely assigned access rights.
Safety as a priority
As a secure access control system, there is real-time visibility of which key has been used, when and by whom. This helps ensure that no outsiders can access the premises to keep security levels high.
Up-to-date access rights
Rusko Municipality knows exactly who has a key. If a key is lost, it is quickly and easily blocked. Keys can be reprogrammed when they change hands. The mobile access system also allows remote access control, as everything works directly from the person’s own smartphone.
Freedom from maintenance – reliable operation
iLOQ’s system is battery-free and requires no maintenance. And, because it works without electricity, there is reliable operation even, for example, during power outages.
“Before iLOQ’s smart locking system, we needed to carry a bundle of more than 100 keys. In addition to the keys, our on-call manager needed a key register to check which key was valid for which object. We also didn’t know for sure who had keys and where they were.”
