Fierder Onderwijs (Fierder Education) is a foundation resulting from the administrative merger of three Christian school communities for secondary education: CSG Liudger, Dockinga College and Lauwers College. The school communities were administratively merged on 1 August 2022. In addition to one Executive Board, services such as HR, ICT and finance have also been merged into one department: Fierder Onderwijs Centraal. This department works for all three school communities. All forms of secondary education are offered within the 11 schools that fall under Fierder Education.

About the project

The foundation includes multiple buildings. They all had different locking systems which were becoming obsolete and, as keys were frequently issued but not returned, security was quickly becoming an issue. With the merger of several school districts, teachers’ key bunches were getting larger and larger as they taught at multiple locations. Finding a multi-purpose access system for more than 1,300 doors was a necessity rather than a requirement.

The solution

1,364 iLOQ S5 cylinders have been installed within the school community. The access system combines the digital physical key with a card reader. Access is granted via the digital system. This makes it clear not only how many keys are in circulation, but also who the key belongs to and to where the key has access.

Just one key gives access to all the various educational locations eliminating the need for big bunches of keys. If a key is lost or not returned, it is immediately blocked. This keeps security levels high within the school community which is very important for the young generation.

Multi-level collaboration

Planning, implementation and service involved close collaboration with iLOQ’s service partner – Klunder Uw Deurregisseur BV. They were closely involved throughout the process and ensured that the iLOQ S5 system works well on several fronts. For example, at the outset they checked all 1,400 doors together with the technical administrators within Fierder Education, and mapped out what iLOQ materials were required and what possible adjustments needed to be made to doors before the system could be implemented.

The final implementation process was carried out by both iLOQ and Klunder Uw Deurregisseur, as well as Fierder’s technical administrators. By working in a planned and careful manner, both students and teachers did not experience any disruption in the rollout of the iLOQ system within the various educational locations. Completion and service delivery was also handled by the partner. They know exactly how the iLOQ system works and can provide on-site support within one day in case of any issues. In addition, they supervise the technical administrator and IT staff within Fierder so that keys can be issued and collected easily.
