Smart solutions for discerning residents
The demand for highly educated people is intensifying year on year. However, the inherent surge in the number of students is putting pressure on educational establishments to accommodate them, particularly as the sector bounces back from the pandemic.
According to Knight Frank, one of the world’s leading independent real estate consultancies, the total value of the UK student housing market will hit £72 billion during 2022. In many countries, student housing is seen as a lucrative investment opportunity. However, this sector is more complex than regular residential accommodation due to the many rental transactions, frequent changes in residents and intensive access management requirements.
Maintaining the highest levels of security while simplifying access management and keeping costs low are key drivers for owners/administrators of student accommodation. iLOQ’s innovative technology and software position us as the leading provider of fast and secure digital locking and mobile access management solutions for this demanding market.
Battery-free technology that’s 100% sustainable
With our digital-key-based solutions, the power for unlocking comes from the kinetic energy produced by inserting the key into the lock. With our mobile access management solution, an NFC-enabled smartphone acts as both a key and a power source.
iLOQ’s flexible, modifiable, easy to-use cloud-based SaaS platform conveniently lets you choose what ‘key’ you want to use and allows the quick, simple and convenient management of all locks, keys, properties and key holders. There’s no need to invest in dedicated hardware or software solutions.
Efficient distribution of large amounts of keys
- Administrators can program access rights onto iLOQ’s cloud-based SaaS platform in advance.
- Digital keys can be sent out to students in good time before they move in. Access rights to smartphones are sent to iLOQ’s app running on the smartphone remotely and in real time.
- When students arrive, they can update the access rights to their digital key when it is convenient for them (even in the middle of the night) using the ‘key programming hotspot’ installed on the premises.
- If a student changes apartments mid-semester, the same key can be reprogrammed with totally different access points, or new access rights are sent to their smartphone.
High levels of security
- With the key-based solution, access rights are programmed onto the key’s microchip with strong encryption, solving the problem of unauthorized copying of keys. With the mobile solution, access rights are granted, updated and cancelled in real time and remotely using iLOQ’s app running on the smartphone eliminating the risk of physical keys entirely.
- The software platform shows at all times who has keys and to where they have access.
- Lost, stolen or unreturned keys can be quickly and easily blocked rendering them useless if someone finds them and tries to gain unauthorized access. There’s no need to change any locks.
Easy to expand
- If new facilities are added or access rights change, keys can be quickly and easily updated with the new information.
- The system can also be supplemented with time-controlled lock cylinders and front door PIN-codes and RFID key readers.
Low lifecycle costs
- One digital or mobile key is all that is needed.
- Lost, stolen or unreturned digital keys (or access rights on lost or stolen smartphones) are simply blocked. There’s no need for rekeying, changing all the locks in the system to maintain security, or going to the time and expense of getting new keys cut.
- iLOQ solutions are battery-free saving purchase costs, 50,000 kg of non-recyclable battery waste every year, and also the environmental impact of maintenance-related travel to change batteries.
- The more keys and cylinders in the system, the more money saved in total cost of ownership.
Easy integration
- As today’s properties grow in size, and more facilities are added to the premises, one major trend in relation to locking systems is integration. More and more service providers are finding useful ways of cooperating by integrating their systems with iLOQ’s access management solutions.
