All the reasons why you deserve an iLOQ, Part 2: How digitalization makes residential living smarter and easier
In all walks of life, digitalization is driving efficiency – both in terms of costs and how we go about our daily lives. With the Internet of Things, more and more devices are becoming interconnected, and an increasing number of people are getting connected to these devices.
Based on information from the Statista Research Department, the term ‘smart home’ is no longer a trendy buzzword, it’s a reality. Estimates are that, by 2025, over 75 billion devices will be connected to the internet. Smart home networks will control, for example, our heating, lighting, common space bookings and even door locks giving residents more control over who has access to where in the building and at what times.
iLOQ is well prepared for this step into a world of smarter homes. Since 2003, we have been at the forefront of making life smarter, safer and generally more accessible with our range of digital locking and mobile access solutions.
For property developers, electromechanical solutions may be perceived as being a more expensive option than mechanical systems. But they very quickly recoup the initial investment in terms of lowest total cost of ownership. Battery-free systems mean there’s no cost for purchasing batteries or maintenance involved with changing them. Access rights are quickly and easily programmed to our digital keys, updated as needs change, and cancelled if keys are lost or stolen. No administration nightmares and no changing locks to maintain security – vital, for example, if a master key goes missing.
For key users, one key is enough to grant access to all relevant areas of the building. Our standard, open application programming interface (API) allows integration with modern information-sharing and booking systems and customer personal databases. This has many helpful use cases; for example, booking of communal spaces can be updated using touchscreens in the premises or on mobile apps and shared with the key. No additional wiring to the door is needed.
In iLOQ’s latest solution, through two-way device-to-device communication, keys, locks and readers in a building share data with each other; data such as access permission, a list of blocked keys, time limitations and audit trails. This keeps access rights up to date and security levels high. And apps are being developed to give residents even more control.
In a new apartment block in Helsinki, the elevator is automatically called when the resident shows their key to the door reader as they enter the building. Smooth movement facilitated by intelligent access management and elevator systems. Watch the video here. While the housing association of another property has a digital locking system that is linked to a camera surveillance system and a GSM-operated door gate system. Watch the video here.
These examples are just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many ways in which iLOQ is making residential living smarter and easier. Keep following our news channel for more great reasons why you deserve an iLOQ.
