Understanding lifecycle environmental impact
Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) is a powerful tool to calculate a product’s environmental impact all the way from raw material extraction to end-of-life treatment. The method has been used for decades, but only recently has it become more achievable for all product and service types. Development of software solutions, training and awareness has helped organizations to build processes to calculate environmental impact.
LCA efficiently compares different scenarios and how they have an impact on, for instance, the climate and human health. Visibility of lifecycle impact will eventually give purchasers the information they need to compare different alternatives more accurately.
iLOQ is committed being net-zero by 2050. Not only is it crucial to reduce operational emissions throughout the value chain, but also to have actions in place to reduce the carbon footprint of our products.
We have created our first lifecycle analysis and aim to have assessments for all our main product categories. As the use-phase emissions of our battery-free solutions remain low, 95% of the climate impact originates from the production phase. Similarly, our Scope 3 upstream emissions contribute to 95% of our total emissions. This is where we are also focusing our emission-reduction efforts.
Bringing insights to our customers is valuable, but more important is reducing environmental impact already during design and procurement processes.
